These symptoms are the result of a deficiency of serotonin. If you have one or more of these symptoms, the 5-HTP, a natural nootropic, can greatly help you in your daily life.

The 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan), a form of tryptophan is an amino acid found in foods like red meat, turkey, fish or seeds. 5-HTP is derived from the seeds of a plant native to Africa that properly taken turns into serotonin (a molecule in the brain that regulates sleep and raises our tolerance for pain and improves mood ).

Our world has become stressful and our modern food is often toxic and nutrient deficient. Levels of serotonin in our brains pay the price and therefore our bodies and our psychological well-being as well.

Nootropics containing 5-HTP has been proven effective in the treatment of anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia, insomnia, bulimia, pain and chronic headaches including migraines.

Is some cases 5-HTP works more effectively than prescription drugs for depression (in addition to it without side effects).

To use the 5-HTP into serotonin, the body needs calcium, magnesium and vitamin B. Our diet is often deficient in these elements so it is vital to take supplements like a multivitamin with at least 50 to 100 mg of vitamin B6, and at least 700 mg of chelate, citrate and magnesium taurate. 5-HTP converts into serotonin and then melatonin (natural sleep hormone and a powerful antioxidant). 5-HTP may increase melatonin production in the body by 200%.

It is recommended that an average of 300 mg of 5-HTP per day for a proper serotonin levels. 50 mg begin with lunch or dinner and increase the dose of 50 mg every other day until get to 300 mg of 5-HTP per day. If your sleep does not improve after two weeks you can increase the dose or take supplements of melatonin in the evening.

Rare side effects of 5-HTP include nausea, diarrhea, drowsiness, insomnia and headaches when it is taken on an empty stomach or when the person has liver problems.

5-HTP is not a miracle nootropic but it can help to overcome the difficulties caused when a deficiency in serotonin-induced stress.

The combination of 5-HTP and stimulant drugs such as antidepressants, especially serotonin and monoamine oxidase inhibitors can cause an overdose of serotonin. So do not take nootropics containing 5-HTP if you take these medications without first consulting your doctor.

I really HATE taking Adderall, but academically I find it necessary. I've been prescribed since 7th grade, went through various ADD/ADHD medicines and found some comfort within Adderall XR, so i've been on that for a while. I take 15mg everyday and sometimes a 5mg booster (amphetamine salts) in the afternoon when necessary. 10mg is too little, 20mg is far too much, 15 sucks the d, but it's what I got to do.

I've dipped in Nootropics and from my brief studies, 5-HTP and L-Tyrosine are my most viable candidates. Thoughts, ideas? anything.

Well what you probably have is an issue with dopamine. Its probably genetic. I have came across some interesting studies of late that show some real genetic abnormalities with how people process dopamine.

If your body is producing too little dopamine and or/other neuro's, your going to have problems with concentration, memory retention, as well as simple overall cognitive functioning. Heck, this is the number one leading cause of depression as well.

I have this issue as well. I had problems in school growing up, and barely skated through high school. I was a bit wild, and couldn't sit still or pay attention.

This lead me to study (and surpass) conventional medicine on the subject.

I love adderall as well. I would continue to take it if I was you, as it is a highly, highly effective drug.

However, you can easily lower your dosage big time by combining it will other components that boost brain function and neurotransmitte r function.

My favorite is Tyrosine, which is a direct precursor to dopamine, epinephrine and serotonin. I like this product called Power Drive (http://www.nootropicsupplements.com/reviews/power-drive-t-nation.html), which as a healthy dose of tyrosine, choline, DMAE and B6 see

You can easily take a much lower dose of adderall when using this. I can cut my dose in half.

First thing in the AM, empty stomach, take a serving of it, and use only 10mg of addy. It is important not to eat for 30 min after. You want all that stuff hitting the blood stream clean and clear and not in the presence of other amino acids or glucose, which will slow and/or blunt absorption.

I take it, then go shave, brush teeth, poo, get dressed, etc. then eat breakfast.
